Sharing an EPD Success Story: Advocacy Work Led to the Repavement of the Qala e Ahmad Khan Village Ring Road

Truck picEQUALITY for Peace and Development (EPD) held a Community-based Monitoring Workshop in November 2013 for team members of the Afghans’ Coalition for Transparency and Accountability (ACTA) in Qala e Ahmad Khan Village of Kabul. At the workshop, the participants were divided into different groups to discuss potential improvement for key infrastructure such as roads, schools, water supply and the establishment of a Fateha home in Qala e Ahmad Village. ACTA has been founded to help communities in different provinces build community-based monitoring mechanisms (CBMM) to voice their needs and concerns to the government and demand transparency and accountability from officials.

A team consisting of members of the Village Council and ACTA members was appointed to conduct advocacy for the repavement of Qala e Ahmad Khan Ring Road. The length of this road is 5250 meters. The team met with the Department of Kabul Municipality and Minister of Finance and agreed on securing enough financial resources for the asphalt of the ring road in the 1393 annual budget. This achievement was one of the most successful advocacies carried out by ACTA in 2013 and 2014. The team also met with the general and MP representing Kabul Ms. Nazifa Zaki.

In conclusion, we would like to thank our donor, Tawanmandi, for financially supporting the ACTA initiative.
